The research analyzed critical aspects of the knowledge management process based on the analyses of knowledge, abilities and attitudes required to individual knowledge workers and to organizations responsible for the management process. In the present work a characterization of the knowledge management process was developed and information and knowledge wokers defined. Competence concept was discussed and specialists gave opinions about critical competences to knowledge management process. The opinions were organized and analyzed by the Delphi method. The results aggregate to the management context by discussing an extremely important resource to organizations - knowledge - and because they support its management process. The research identified wide critical aspects that are compatible with current organizational challenges, directing the process management to important themes as: the worker able to create, the organization able to convert individual knowledge into organizational knowledge, knowledge sharing while still tacit, the maximization organizational knowledge use, information and knowledge generation and preservation, among others important topics to be observed by knowledge workers and by administrators responsible for the knowledge management process.

Ademais, é razoável notar a necessidade metodológica de buscar uma relação tripartite entre vivência, formação e elaboração intelectual no estudo das ideias que concernem o conhecimento.; Raymond Aron (1905-1983) is a French author best known for his conservatism in the field of policy analysis. However, his conservative view is founded on critical reflections that concern the historical knowledge. Since not all clinical knowledge managed by healthcare organizations could be considered critical (or much critical) we need to define the value of clinical knowledge for further handle in risk management. With the key aspects of InfoSec: Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability and Privacy we intent to achieve the core critical knowledge that will be the source of the healthcare critical knowledge ontology. Critical knowledge ontology should be tailored to the healthcare organization in focus to comply with multiple factors, such as: organizational culture, terminology used, health department specifications, among others. With topic model approach we intent to automatically driven document topics and match with critical healthcare knowledge from ontology, thus, give value to the documents concerning its critical knowledge.; This work is financed by FEDER funds through the Competitive Factors Operational Program – COMPETE and Portuguese national funds through FCT – Fundação para a ciência e tecnologia in project FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER- 022674.

The objective of this study is to analyze two theoretical points from the methodological Field of Physical Education (PE): the Critical Overcoming Approach (Colection of Authors, 1992), based on the historical and dialectical materialism and the Critical Emancipatory Approach (Kuns, 1994) formulated trough the phenomenological approach of human movement. This research is situated in the historical development of the pedagogical plan to PE, that is, the critics in relation to specificity - content, as well as, the realities that are shown beyond the classroom, the patio and the walls of the school, in fact, the society and its changes. Then yet, systematizing Critical Overcoming and Critical Emancipatory Approaches are dealt, in this study, as proposals that yet earned an important space in the epistemological field of PE. Sustained by Marxists foundations, it is possible emphasized that, in the last decades, this proposes have been the new center of different discussions and questions, mainly in relation to the development in the practical context. It is therefore important much progress to the knowledge area of PE, that goes on the deconstruction of the biological/technicist PE conception , as well as the formulation to the development of the critical pedagogic practice. In face of this changes in Chapter I and II...

peer-reviewed; Capturing the technical knowledge, contextual information, and rationale surrounding the design decisions underpinning system architectures can greatly improve the software development process. If not managed, this critical knowledge is implicitly embedded in the architecture, becoming tacit knowledge which erodes as personnel on the project change. Moreover, the unavailability of architecture knowledge precludes organizations from growing their architectural capabilities. In this tutorial, we highlight the benefits and challenges in managing software architecture knowledge. We discuss various approaches to characterize architecture knowledge based on the requirements of a particular domain. We describe various concepts and approaches to manage the architecture knowledge from both management and technical perspectives. We also demonstrate the utility of captured knowledge to support software architecture activities with a case study covering the use of architecture knowledge management techniques and tools in an industrial project.

peer-reviewed; In today’s competitive and turbulent environment companies engaged in New Product Development (NPD) need tu have a sophisticated understanding of the types of knowledge critical to the each phase of the NPD process. These types of knowledge are used in so-called “stage-gate” NPD processes. This paper will describe a typical NPD stage-gate process and indicate the critical knowledge types needed at the different stages. The identification of the critical knowledge used at each stage was done by combining knowledge of the literature and practical experience of running NPD processes in an industrial setting. The different types of knowledge required at different stages of the development process will he described and elaborated on. When providing knowledge management systems to support the NPD process, one needs to consider providing a system that can cater for knowledge that may take different forms. This research contributes to our understanding of the nature of those knowledge forms.

In the research framework proposed in this dissertation, science exhibitions are conceptualized as dynamic information spaces for knowledge building that are constituted by three major pathways of knowledge communication: museum-to-visitor, visitor-to-visitor, and visitor-to-museum knowledge communication. It is argued that advanced technologies have the potential to support all forms of visitor-to-visitor knowledge communication but additionally, they allow for new forms of knowledge communication among unacquainted visitors and beyond the actual museum visit. Central learning mechanisms are analysed, namely socio-cognitive conflict, internalization of social processes, giving and receiving help, argumentation, co-construction of knowledge/group cognition, and active participation in knowledge building with regard to their relevance for learning in science exhibitions. Prototypical advanced media applications in science exhibitions that address these mechanisms are presented. These analytical considerations are then applied to examine the learning potential of discussion terminals for the communication of emergent technologies and contemporary science topics. For this purpose, a specific exhibition about nanotechnology is used as context. The specific challenge in communicating contemporary science topics is the fact that these topics are often discussed controversially...

When seeking to engage a community and disseminate critical knowledge and skills, experience points to one of the most innovative, engaging, and effective learning tools available. Interactive Theater has been successfully applied to raise awareness, challenge attitudes, and influence behaviors around a wide variety of issues in diverse settings. Examples include public health and conflict resolution issues in international communities, faculty development issues on university campuses, social justice issues in colleges and high schools, and physician-patient communication in hospitals and medical schools. The question at hand this past spring was: could Interactive Theater be adapted and applied to engage and train stakeholders who work to foster public-private dialogue and private sector development in developing nations? The answer was a resounding 'Yes.' This smart lesson describes how Interactive Theater was successfully used as a learning tool by the Investment Climate Department during two sessions of the 6th annual international workshop on Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) in Vienna...

Designing approaches to support knowledge intensive work has been documented to be critical and costly. Research has shown that knowledge workers frequently evaluate such efforts as missing the mark. They are too often left without the help they need for constructing knowledge-based solutions. Knowledge workers point to failures not so much in accessing topically-perfect-information but rather to communication gaps, such as practices and knowledge interactions that do not address work demands and knowing needs in complex, changing, and sometimes elusive situations. This research used an interviewing approach informed by Dervin's Sense-Making Methodology. The aim was to allow digging deeply to understand hidden depths of knowing practices that rarely have come to light in user studies. The ultimate aim is to design knowledge interactions and practices that support complex knowledge creation anchored to knowledge worker’s knowing practices and to the situationality of these practices. The purpose of this paper is to present an exemplar study focusing on the challenges of doing user research in such a way that it usefully informs the design of knowledge supportive practices and interactions intended for use in complex knowledge creation work in the for-profit context. Dervin’s Sense-Making Methodology is presented as an alternative and more powerful approach to studying knowledge creation work in organizational contexts.; Designing approaches to support knowledge intensive work has been documented to be critical and costly. The importance of knowledge as a resource and asset for organizations and society has been well researched in the social science and management literature. Both the critical systems approach and the viable system model have been used as foundations for managing knowledge. This note advocates a third approach to managing knowledge: a framework based on knowledge exchange that is closer to the theory of 'gifts'.

The starting point of this paper is the observation that studies in tourism have been through a review of the theories developed so far and that new proposals have emerged in recent years. Research in tourism has yet to be able to build steady conceptual boundaries and there is a lack of continuity and complementarity among studies, which bring mostly the positivist perspective. That happens, among other reasons, due to the unawareness of studies undertook in the early ages of tourism as an object of investigation. Furthermore, the majority of the intellectual mainstream disregards everything not published in English. This crisis in tourism studies is itself a reflex of a larger crisis manifested in for main aspects: 1) the crisis of universities, 2) the crisis in Philosophy, 3) the crisis of cultural, human, moral and ethical values, and 4) the crisis of historical values. The authors conclude that, in order to build such a critical knowledge in tourism studies, it is necessary to make use of values and principles from Philosophy and Epistemology, otherwise there will be no advances and tourism knowledge will be kept restrained by those who "own" it.; El presente artículo parte de la observación de que los estudios turísticos están pasando por una revisión de las teorías desarrolladas hasta ahora y de las nuevas propuestas que han surgido en los últimos años. La investigación en turismo todavía no consiguió construir marcos conceptuales estables y hay una falta de continuidad y complementariedad entre los estudios realizados...

This article analyses the particularities of the redemocratization process of Latin American political regimes, in an attempt to contribute to the understanding of phenomenon central to our societies today. Since the 1980's, the attempt by Latin America to reorganize its public life in conformity with liberal democratic precepts demonstrated an inequality of political forces in the negotiation of this transition, where political advances were accompanied by the deterioration of living conditions among national majorities. Since critical Social Work historically arose in the framework of democratic regulations, the formation of the profession was intrinsically related to the weaknesses of this process, from which emerge new challenges to the construction of the identity of social workers, principally in the debate over the meaning of the practice, of the process of critical knowledge and of the redimensioning of the relevant proposals in the defense of a socially necessary project in the current Latin American context.; http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1414-49802006000200010O artigo busca analisar as particularidades do processo de redemocratização dos regimes políticos latino-americanos, tentando contribuir para o esclarecimento de fenômenos hoje centrais na compreensão destas sociedades e...

Contemporary social transformations, operated by the neoliberal program under the command of financial capital, bring new challenges to the group of citizens and men and women who live by the sale of their labor power. Social workers, individually and collectively, are not separate from this reality. The profession was characterized by its confrontation with these challenges and its questioning and analysis of its role in society, in its attempt to assume more critical profiles and commitments to the interests of workers and the subaltern sectors. An example of this is the “Reconceptualization Movement” and the later attempt to define na “Alternative Social Service” concerned with the meaning of its practice, with the process of critical knowledge, with a criticism of capitalism and its situations of social injustice. The current challenges include overcoming earlier weaknesses, collectively constructing an ethicalpolitical professional project that can competently and committedly confront, at the heart of progressive social forces, the conditions in which workers live (with or without employment) as well as other subaltern populations.; http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1414-49802006000200002As transformações sociais contemporâneas...

; The present essay discusses collaborative knowledge construction on the Web, providing an analysis related to how divergent contributions from individuals become a convergent shared knowledge. A proficient collaboration can unlash the creation of something innovating that can not be conferred to a specific stu- dent. During the collaborative production a knowledge that could not be constructed individually can emerge. An approach based on dialectic logic to describe one of the possible ways that such a process con- cerning collaborative knowledge construction can occur by means of a social representation synthesis will be used.
