The current paper presents a large memory giving special emphasis to the architecture and suitability of the Linux OS for this type of applications. The system will be used on the joint european torus new correlation reflectometers composed by four microwave channels with four analogue signals each. All sixteen signals will be acquired by 12-bit VME fast acquisition channels at 2 Msamples/s achieving a total data rate of 60MB/s. Slower VME acquisition channels, with 16-bit resolution and sampling rates up to 250 ksamples/s, can also acquire these 16 signals. Each plasma physics laboratory has a proprietary scheme to control and data acquisition system. Usually, it is different from one laboratory to another. It means that each laboratory has its own way to control the experiment and retrieving data from the database. Fusion research relies to a great extent on international collaboration and this private system makes it difficult to follow the work remotely. The TCABR data analysis and acquisition system has been upgraded to support a joint research programme using remote participation technologies. The choice of MDSplus (Model Driven System plus) is proved by the fact that it is widely utilized, and the scientists from different institutions may use the same system in different experiments in different tokamaks without the need to know how each system treats its acquisition system and data analysis. A secagem para conservação de produtos agrícolas e alimentícios e feita geralmente com emprego de eletricidade ou combustível fóssil, que incrementa o custo do produto final. Dessa forma, faz-se necessário o desenvolvimento de sistemas que utilizam energia renovável, como a solar, de modo a reduzir custos sem prejuízo na qualidade do produto. Assim, um secador solar de convecção natural misto foi projetado e construído, bem como um sistema de aquisição de dados (SAD) utilizando telemetria, para monitorar temperatura e umidade relativa, ambas do ar, no interior do secador. Para o projeto do secador pesquisou-se na literatura diversos modelos já estudados, a m de reunir idéias para definição de um modelo particular. Apos construiu, um teste operacional foi realizado no secador, utilizando tomate cereja. An indirect method for the georeferencing of 3D point clouds obtained with terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data using control lines is presented. This technique could be used for rapid data acquisition where resources do not permit the use of expensive navigation sensors or the placement of pre-signalised targets. The most important characteristic is the development of a mathematical model based on the principle that the direction vector of the TLS straight line is coplanar with the plane defined by the origin of the TLS system, one endpoint of a control line and the direction vector of the control line in the ground reference coordinate system. The transformation parameters are estimated by minimising the distance between the control lines and their corresponding TLS straight lines. The proposed method was tested using both simulated and real data, and the advantages of this new approach are compared with conventional surveying methods. © 2013 This article is a U.S. Government work and is in the public domain in the USA.

The electric motors’ test benches are greatly used by electric motors manufacturers and drive system designers. In this paper it is described the conversion process of an older manually controlled test bench, in an automatic digitally controlled one with integrated data acquisition system. The renewed test bench is based in a two quadrant eddy current electromagnetic brake, in which the manual torque controller and analog indicator have been replaced by an automatic digital controller, by which is possible to predefine a torque profile for the test. With the data acquisition system it is possible the acquisition and recording of speed, torque and internal temperature on the brake. Soil working operations in conventional farming systems involving the use of tractors are some of the operations which incur the highest energy costs. Sustainability of such systems requires strictly-controlled management of resources which can lead to a significant reduction in crop-production costs, derived from savings in fuel consumption. A novel data acquisition system has been successfully integrated on-board the Massey Ferguson 3000 series agricultural tractors for measuring tractor-implement performance. A commercial load cell was incorporated into the existing system for the needed tractor-implement performance measurements. This system is capable of measuring, displaying and recording, in real-time, the tractor’s theoretical travel speed, the actual travel speed, the engine speed, the fuel consumption rate, and the drawbar pull. Static calibration tests on various associated sensors for the required measurements show excellent linearity with correlation coefficients that are close to 1. The developed system has been extensively and successfully field demonstrated for tractor-implement performance with offset disc harrows on dry, undisturbed loamy soils. Testing PV modules are one of the important procedures to ensure the conformity with the standards and quality of this equipment’s. To implement some of the PV modules tests a data acquisition system is required. This paper presents the design and implementation of a data acquisition system for photovoltaic systems. The developed system is characterized by a low cost board based on a microcontroller. The description of the hardware as well an application to test its performance is presented. The developed system can be used for reading, storing and analyzing information from several photovoltaic systems. Experimental tests are presented to confirm the characteristics of the developed data acquisition board.

Modern biological research requires rapid, complex, and reproducible integration of multiple experimental results generated both internally and externally (e.g., from public repositories). Although large systematic meta-analyses are among the most effective approaches both for clinical biomarker discovery and for computational inference of biomolecular mechanisms, identifying, acquiring, and integrating relevant experimental results from multiple sources for a given study can be time-consuming and error-prone. To enable efficient and reproducible integration of diverse experimental results, we developed a novel approach for standardized acquisition and analysis of high-throughput and heterogeneous biological data. This allowed, first, novel biomolecular network reconstruction in human prostate cancer, which correctly recovered and extended the NFκB signaling pathway. Next, we investigated host-microbiome interactions. In less than an hour of analysis time, the system retrieved data and integrated six germ-free murine intestinal gene expression datasets to identify the genes most influenced by the gut microbiota, which comprised a set of immune-response and carbohydrate metabolism processes. O desenvolvimento de técnicas de aquisição de dados capazes de monitorar o desempenho de um sistema de soldagem automatizado pode ser aplicado, por exemplo, à um sistema capaz de fazer reparos em dutos cheios de fluídos em operação. Nesse caso, o sistema deve precisamente controlar e monitorar a entrada de calor enquanto a solda é feita. Os osciloscópios digitais, que são geralmente os aparelhos utilizados para esse fim, apresentam custo bastante elevado, assim como outras soluções existentes no mercado. Além disso, esses sistemas não oferecem uma solução específica para a área de soldagem. Assim, o objetivo desse trabalho foi desenvolver um sistema de aquisição de dados sincronizado integrado com webcam para uso no estudo dos diversos tipos de processos de soldagem. Esse sistema poderia tanto ser usado para automação de sistemas de reparo de dutos assim como para outros tipos de operações de soldagem, inclusive avaliações experimentais em laboratórios. A maioria dos sistemas de aquisiçãao de dados atuais é baseada em mecanismos de hardware e software dedicados. Tal estratégia dificulta consideravelmente tarefas como a expansão e a atualização do hardware, uma vez que imp˜oem mudanças na estrutura do software, e vice-versa. Neste sentido, este trabalho descreve o desenvolvimento de um framework para interfaceamento e gerenciamento de dispositivos de aquisição de dados. Seu principal objetivo é aumentar a modularização do sistema, separando a implementação do hardware do equipamento da implementação do software associado ao mesmo. O framework foi desenvolvido com a utilização de técnicas de construção de software adaptativo, como polimorfismo, padrões de projeto, plug-ins e reflexão. Com isso, foi possível criar dispositivos de software capazes de detectar as características específicas de equipamentos conectados a um computador, aumentando assim a compatibilidade entre os aplicativos de software e os equipamentos de aquisiçãoo. The availability of synthetic realistic data eases design optimization, algorithm evaluation and verification of any digital system where a significant amount of digital signal processing is performed. The evolution of positron emission tomography cameras towards continuous sampling of individual position-sensitive photomultiplier anodes with processing algorithms implemented on digital programmable logic devices creates a new framework where new approaches to the γ-event detection are possible. We have developed a system model of the acquisition chain, including multi-layer phoswich, photomultiplier, front-end analog electronics, data acquisition and digital processing. This processing includes estimation algorithms for the most relevant event parameters: energy, layer-of-interaction, time picking-off and event location. The selected simulation platform couples gently to digital hardware simulation tools, in such a way that implemented models may generate real-like stimuli for the digital system under development. The output signalfrom the transmitter was encoded to digital signal based on one of the Pulse Coding Modulation (PCM) algorithms. At the receiver end, the signal is demodulated and processed to extract the spectrum of the original analogue signal which is subsequently converted to voltage primarily for position tracking purposes. We used a path loss scenario based on the lognormal model to investigate the relationship between signal power transmitted, distance between transmitter and receiver, and the bit error rate generated in the channel. The performance of the radio frequency (RF) unit through additive White Gaussian Noise (A WGN) channel was examined by estimating the average Bit Error Rate (BER). The effect of the multipath fading was also considered in the receiver model. The system will read analogue information provided by two sensors and can be used for medical purposes. Real data has been obtained and a simulation of the two signals coming from both pH and pressure sensors embedded in the system has been employed. The created model contains four main units simulated using SIMULINK. At the first unit, the output signal is encoded to digital signal based on adapting one of the Pulse Coding Modulation (PCM) algorithms. The second unit simulates the processor function that is responsible for framing, mixing and compressing the incoming hit streams from both sensors. The third unit, where the digital data is modulated and sent through different noisy channels, represents an efficient FSK transmittertreceiver model. At the receiver end, the signal is demodulated and processed inversely to extract the original analogue signal read by the two sensors. In this work, the performance of the systems using different PCM methods will be studied comparatively in order to control the transmission and reduce the amount of data sent. This leads to a significant reduction in power consumption. Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited; For over half a century the NPS Aerolabʼ Low Speed Wind Tunnel located in Halligan Hall of the Naval Postgraduate school has served to provide students and faculty with meaningful aerodynamic data for research and problem analysis. New data acquisition hardware was installed three years ago but never fully verified, and contained no integrated software program to collect data from the strain-gauge balance pedestal. Existing National Instruments based hardware for the NPS low-speed wind tunnel was reconfigured to obtain data from the strain-gauge pedestal. Additionally, a data acquisition software program was written in LabVIEW⠭ to accommodate the hardware. The Virtual Instruments (VI) program collects and plots accurate data from all four strain gauges in real-time, producing non-dimensional force and moment coefficients. A research study on the performance of an OH-6A helicopter fuselage was conducted. NPS Aerolabʼ wind tunnel tests consisted of drag, lift, and pitching moment measurements of the OH-6A along yaw and angle-of-attack sweeps. Beyond the classical statistical approaches (determination of basic statistics, regression analysis, ANOVA, etc.) a new set of applications of different statistical techniques has increasingly gained relevance in the analysis, processing and interpretation of data concerning the characteristics of forest soils. This is possible to be seen in some of the recent publications in the context of Multivariate Statistics. These new methods require additional care that is not always included or refered in some approaches. In the particular case of geostatistical data applications it is necessary, besides to geo-reference all the data acquisition, to collect the samples in regular grids and in sufficient quantity so that the variograms can reflect the spatial distribution of soil properties in a representative manner. In the case of the great majority of Multivariate Statistics techniques (Principal Component Analysis, Correspondence Analysis, Cluster Analysis, etc.) despite the fact they do not require in most cases the assumption of normal distribution, they however need a proper and rigorous strategy for its utilization. To enable efficient and reproducible integration of diverse experimental results, we developed a novel approach for standardized acquisition and analysis of high-throughput and heterogeneous biological data. This allowed, first, novel biomolecular network reconstruction in human prostate cancer, which correctly recovered and extended the NFκB signaling pathway. Next, we investigated host-microbiome interactions. In less than an hour of analysis time, the system retrieved data and integrated six germ-free murine intestinal gene expression datasets to identify the genes most influenced by the gut microbiota, which comprised a set of immune-response and carbohydrate metabolism processes. This work presents the development of a data acquisition system for an oceanographic buoy that includes the necessary sensors to measure the meteorological and marine variables which are involved in the physical processes in the ocean-atmosphere interface. In general, the development consists of three phases: • Either digital or analogical conditioning of the signals resulting from the different sensors. • Development of the instrument's control system. • Development of both control and instrument-user communication programming. Among the most important characteristics of the system are the following: • The buoy has sensors to measure wind direction and speed, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, air temperature, water temperature, marine current direction and speed, and wave height. • The system is programmable, this is, the sampling intervals can be programmed as well as the start and end dates of an experiment by means of a personal computer and a user-friendly software in the Windows platform. • The instrument was designed for a low consumption of energy and with a system of solar cells to recharge the battery. To date, partial results have been generated in respect to the measurement of the oceanographic variables because the physical structure of the buoy has not been finished yet.
