Background: The methods used for evaluating wound dimensions, especially the chronic ones, are invasive and inaccurate. The fringe projection technique with phase shift is a non-invasive, accurate and low-cost optical method. Objective: The aim is to validate the technique through the determination of dimensions of objects of known topography and with different geometries and colors to simulate the wounds and tones of skin color. Taking into account the influence of skin wound optical factors, the technique will be used to evaluate actual patients’ wound dimensions and to study its limitations in this application. Methods: Four sinusoidal fringe patterns, displaced ¼ of period each, were projected onto the objects surface. The object dimensions were obtained from the unwrapped phase map through the observation of the fringe deformations caused by the object topography and using phase shift analysis. An object with simple geometry was used for dimensional calibration and the topographic dimensions of the others were determined from it. After observing the compatibility with the data and validating the method, it was used for measuring the dimensions of real patients’ wounds. Results and Conclusions: The discrepancies between actual topography and dimensions determined with Fringe Projection Technique and for the known object were lower than 0.50 cm. The method was successful in obtaining the topography of real patient’s wounds. A medida precisa de dimensões de lesões crônicas e o acompanhamento do processo de cicatrização são essenciais durante o tratamento. Porém, os métodos utilizados atualmente para esse fim são invasivos e imprecisos. Por outro lado, as técnicas de análise de franjas são métodos óticos amplamente explorados para a obtenção de topografias de objetos, pela análise da deformação de um padrão periódico de franjas projetado sobre a superfície deles. Dessa forma, a utilização dessas técnicas surge como uma interessante alternativa para a obtenção da topografia e das dimensões das lesões. Com o intuito de desenvolver uma técnica de análise de franjas capaz de medir dimensões de lesões na pele de forma não invasiva, rápida, exata e de baixo custo, comparou-se a Técnica Moiré de Projeção e a Técnica de Projeção de Franjas, chegando-se a conclusão de que a segunda era a mais adequada para o propósito. Assim, projetaram-se quatro padrões de franjas, deslocados de ¼ do período entre si, sobre a superfície do objeto de estudo e, através da análise das imagens, obteve-se um mapa com as fases dos padrões moduladas pela presença do objeto. This paper describes an accurate method for computing the dimensions of boxes directly from perspective projection images acquired by conventional cameras. The approach is based on projective geometry and computes the box dimensions using data extracted from the box silhouette and from the projection of two parallel laser beams on one of the imaged faces of the box. In order to identify the box silhouette, we have developed a statistical model for homogeneous-background-color removal that works with a moving camera, and an efficient voting scheme for the Hough transform that allows the identification of almost collinear groups of pixels. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach by automatically computing the dimensions of real boxes using a scanner prototype that implements the algorithms and methods described in the paper. We also present a discussion of the performed measurements, and an error propagation analysis that allows the method to estimate, from each single video frame, the uncertainty associated to all measurements made over that frame, in real-time.

AimTo evaluate the influence (i) of various implant platform configurations and (ii) of implant surface characteristics on peri-implant tissue dimensions in a dog model.Material and methodsMandibular premolars and first molars were extracted bilaterally in six Labrador dogs. After 3 months of healing, two implants, one with a turned and a second with a moderately rough surface, were installed on each side of the mandible in the premolar region. on the right side of the mandible, implants with a tapered and enlarged platform were used, while standard cylindrical implants were installed in the left side of the mandible. Abutments with the diameter of the cylindrical implants were used resulting in a mismatch of 0.25 mm at the tapered implant sites. The flaps were sutured to allow a non-submerged healing. After 4 months, the animals were sacrificed and ground sections were obtained for histometric assessment.ResultsAll implants were completely osseointegrated. A minimal buccal bone resorption was observed for both implant configurations and surface topographies. Considering the animals as the statistical unit, no significant differences were found at the buccal aspect in relation to bone levels and soft tissue dimensions. The surface topographies did not influence the outcomes either.ConclusionsThe present study failed to show differences in peri-implant tissue dimensions when a mismatch of 0.25 mm from a tapered platform to an abutment was applied. Neste trabalho é apresentada uma nova abordagem teórica e semifenomenológica acerca do que dimensões extras poderiam representar na explicação do que é a matéria escura. Aqui mostra-se que a gravitação baseada numa ação de Einstein-Hilbert para espaços-tempo com dimensão acima de quatro, produz um termo de força extra nas equações de movimento de um sistema de partículas teste, o que pode ser aplicado ao problema do campo gerado por alguma estrutura autogravitante, como clusters esféricos ou discos, por exemplo. Tal resultado é explorado no cálculo de configurações que possam mimetizar uma galáxia real. As configurações calculadas são o disco fino - a partir do método de imagens - e também a distribuição isotrópica de Miyamoto-Nagai - que reproduz o comportamento idealizado de uma galáxia espiral graças à estratificação de matéria num bojo central mais um disco galático. PUORPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of specimen dimensions on the flexural strength of a composite resin (Heliomolar RO). METHODS: The different dimensions tested - length x width x height (mm) were: 25x2x4; 25x2x2 (ISO 4049); 15x2x2; 10x2x2 and 10x2x1. Light-curing was performed at 600 mW/cm² for 40s, three times along the 25mm specimens, twice along 15mm specimen and once for the 10mm specimens. Specimens of all dimensions were light-cured on both surfaces, or only on one side. In the latter, the load was applied on the irradiated side or on the opposite one. RESULTS: It was shown that the flexural strength was not affected by specimen length. When light-curing was performed on both surfaces, similar flexural strength values were obtained for any dimension. Despite the number of irradiated surfaces, specimens with a height of 1mm also obtained similar values. On the contrary, specimens with a height of 4mm, exposed only on one surface, reached the lowest strength. CONCLUSION: The use of specimens with lower dimensions can lead to flexural strength values similar to the ones obtained with standardized specimen (ISO 4049), with the advantage of demanding less amount of material and being less time consuming.

OBJECTIVE: Some factors such as gender, age, craniofacial morphology, body structure, occlusal contact patterns may affect the maximum bite force. Thus, the purposes of this study were to determine the mean maximum bite force in individuals with normal occlusion, and to examine the effect of gender, facial dimensions, body mass index (BMI), type of functional occlusion (canine guidance and group function occlusion) and balancing side interferences on it. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty-four individuals aged 19-20 years-old were selected for this study. Maximum bite force was measured with strain-gauge transducers at first molar region. Facial dimensions were defined by standardized frontal photographs as follows: anterior total facial height (ATFH), bizygomathic facial width (BFW) and intergonial width (IGW). BMI was calculated using the equation weight/height². The type of functional occlusion and the balancing side interferences of the subjects were identified by clinical examination. RESULTS: Bite force was found to be significantly higher in men than women (p<0.05). While there was a negative correlation between the bite force and ATFH/BFW, ATFH/IGW ratios in men (p<0.05), women did not show any statistically significant correlation (p>0.05). BMI and bite force correlation was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The average bite force did not differ in subjects with canine guidance or group function occlusion and in the presence of balancing side interferences (p>0.05). The aim of this study is to explore and validate the dimensions of IT Portfolio Management (ITPM) in Brazilian companies, based on three different models. Five case studies were carried out in Brazilian companies that invest more than nine million reals per year in IT. Eight top IT executives from those organizations who had knowledge of the dimensions of ITPM were interviewed. Items were modified and new items included within the dimensions, while examples of equipment or systems applicable to each of the four dimensions were also identified. Research that helps managers to better understand and structure their IT investments by using the dimensions of ITPM is important to assist in the management of such resources.

Les objectifs du présent mémoire étaient d’identifier les dimensions présentes dans la Statique-99R, l’échelle actuarielle de prédiction de la récidive sexuelle la plus utilisée, et de tester leur validité prédictive. Une analyse factorielle exploratoire des items de l’instrument en a extrait trois dimensions : la déviance sexuelle, l’orientation antisociale et le détachement émotionnel. Des analyses de régressions de Cox ont révélé que ces facteurs affichaient une validité prédictive différentielle; la déviance sexuelle ne prédisait que la récidive sexuelle, alors que l’orientation antisociale ne prédisait que la récidive violente non sexuelle et la récidive générale. Le détachement émotionnel affichait une validité prédictive incohérente. Des analyses de courbes ROC ont indiqué que la dernière révision de la Statique-99, la Statique-99R, surpassait pratiquement en tout point son prédécesseur. La présente thèse de doctorat porte sur les processus internes au sein des équipes de travail pluriculturelles. Cette thèse se compose de trois articles et propose, d’une part, une mesure validée des valeurs culturelles au niveau individuel en langue française et, d’autre part, une mesure du degré d’homogénéité culturelle au sein des équipes de travail (ci-après ÉT). En outre, elle se penche sur la vérification empirique des nombreux liens entre l’homogénéité culturelle et les processus internes au sein des ÉT postulés par les auteurs mais jamais vérifiés empiriquement. Le premier article a pour but de faire le point sur la documentation scientifique concernant les équipes de travail pluriculturelles. Il présente une recension de la documentation portant sur ce type d’équipe, notamment l’impact présumé de la culture sur les comportements d’équipier, et les effets de la diversité culturelle sur la performance de l’équipe et sur ses processus internes. Des études récentes suggèrent que le perfectionnisme est un phénomène multidimensionnel avec des composantes néfastes, mais aussi des éléments positifs, au bien-être psychosocial. Une étude a été élaborée afin de comparer la prévalence de ces éléments chez les garçons et les filles surdoués. Quarante-neuf enfants âgés de 7 à 11 ans ont rapporté leurs attitudes perfectionnistes, appartenant à deux dimensions du phénomène : le perfectionnisme orienté ver soi et le perfectionnisme socialement prescrit. Contrairement à nos attentes, les résultats révèlent que la prévalence des deux dimensions de perfectionnisme ne diffère pas de manière significative entre les filles et les garçons surdoués. Broad in conceptual utility and cross-disciplinary in nature, innovation has drawn a wide interest among practitioners and academia alike. This literary interest has produced divergent conceptualisation of innovation, resulting in lack of synthesis and joint common language. The problem manifests into fragmented and non-generlisable literary contributions and consequently diluted usefulness of the growing literature. This paper therefore presents a literature review on various dimensions of the concept of innovation to synthesise our understanding of innovation. The aim is to build a consolidated view of the concept and structure the emerging literature on innovation. A case study of the literature on innovation led to identification of five dimensions of innovation and they are: innovation as something new, innovation as a conduit to change, innovation as a process, innovation as a value driver, and innovation as invention. The findings of case study of literature are discussed and then incorporated to develop a model of dimensions of innovation, as well as a sythesised definition of the concept of innovation. Developments in dynamical systems theory provide new support for the macroscale modelling of pdes and other microscale systems such as lattice Boltzmann, Monte Carlo or molecular dynamics simulators. By systematically resolving subgrid microscale dynamics the dynamical systems approach constructs accurate closures of macroscale discretisations of the microscale system. Here we specifically explore reaction–diffusion problems in two spatial dimensions as a prototype of generic systems in multiple dimensions. Our approach unifies into one the discrete modelling of systems governed by known pdes and the ‘equation-free’ macroscale modelling of microscale simulators efficiently executing only on small patches of the spatial domain. Centre manifold theory ensures that a closed model exists on the macroscale grid, is emergent, and is systematically approximated. Dividing space into either overlapping finite elements or spatially separated small patches, the specially crafted inter-element/patch coupling also ensures that the constructed discretisations are consistent with the microscale system/pde to as high an order as desired. Textbooks are important tools to develop the lexical competence of English foreign language learners. However teachers and researchers have paid little attention to the language input contained in textbooks, particularly as far as the representation of knowledge dimensions in vocabulary activities is concerned. The present study pursued two objectives. Firstly, it aimed at the identification of the dimensions involved in the vocabulary activities included in two English textbooks used in the last year of Spanish compulsory education (4th year ESO). Secondly, it aimed at ascertaining whether there were differences in the distribution of vocabulary knowledge dimensions in two textbooks of the same level. Results show that the distribution of vocabulary knowledge dimensions is different in the two textbooks under examination, which may give rise to differences in learners’ lexical acquisition and output.; Los libros de texto son herramientas importantes para el desarrollo de la competencia léxica de los estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera. Sin embargo, no todos los libros de texto dan la misma importancia al vocabulario, especialmente a la representación de las dimensiones léxicas en cada actividad. Por ello, los objetivos de este estudio son identificar las dimensiones léxicas que aparecen en las actividades de dos libros de texto de inglés como lengua extranjera en 4º de ESO y encontrar las diferencias existentes entre estos dos libros del mismo nivel. Los resultados muestran que hay diferencias significativas entre los dos libros y que la distribución de las dimensiones léxicas es bastante heterogénea lo cual puede afectar el desarrollo de la competencia léxica de los aprendices de inglés.

Background: Clinical and sociodemographic findings have supported that OCD is heterogeneous and composed of multiple potentially overlapping and stable symptom dimensions. Previous neuroimaging investigations have correlated different patterns of OCD dimension scores and gray matter (GM) volumes. Despite their relevant contribution, some methodological limitations, such as patient's previous medication intake, may have contributed to inconsistent findings. Method: Voxel-based morphometry was used to investigate correlations between regional GM volumes and symptom dimensions severity scores in a sample of 38 treatment-naive OCD patients. Several standardized instruments were applied, including an interview exclusively developed for assessing symptom dimensions severity (DY-BOCS). Results: Scores on the "aggression" dimension were positively correlated with GM volumes in lateral parietal cortex in both hemispheres and negatively correlated with bilateral insula, left putamen and left inferior OFC. Scores on the "sexual/religious" dimension were positively correlated with GM volumes within the right middle lateral OFC and right DLPFC and negatively correlated with bilateral ACC. Scores on the "hoarding" dimension were positively correlated with GM volumes in the left superior lateral OFC and negatively correlated in the right parahippocampal gyrus. OBJETIVO: A finalidade da presente investigação foi avaliar a influência das dimensões dos corpos-de-prova (cp) e da superfície de irradiação na resistência à flexão de uma resina composta (Heliomolar RO). MÉTODOS: As diversas dimensões adotadas - comprimento x largura x altura (mm) foram: 25x2x4; 25x2x2 (ISO 4049); 15x2x2; 10x2x2; 10x2x1. A fotoativação foi realizada por 40 segundos a 600mW/cm²; três vezes ao longo dos cp de 25mm, duas vezes ao longo dos cp de 15mm e uma vez nos cp de 10mm de comprimento. Os corpos-de-prova de todas as dimensões foram ativados em ambas as superfícies, ou apenas em uma; neste caso a carga de ruptura era aplicada na face de irradiação ou na oposta. RESULTADOS: Foi mostrado que a resistência à flexão não foi afetada pelo comprimento dos cp. Com a fotoativação em ambas as superfícies, as resistências obtidas eram semelhantes nos diversos comprimentos. Independentemente do número de faces irradiadas, os cp com 1mm de altura apresentaram resistências semelhantes. Contudo, cp com 4mm de altura e irradiados apenas por um lado, alcançaram os menores valores. CONCLUSÃO: Com o emprego de cp com dimensões menores são alcançados valores de resistência à flexão semelhante aos obtidos com cp padronizados (ISO 4049)...

The aim of this study is to explore and validate the dimensions of IT Portfolio Management (ITPM) in Brazilian companies, based on three different models. Five case studies were carried out in Brazilian companies that invest more than nine million reals per year in IT. Eight top IT executives from those organizations who had knowledge of the dimensions of ITPM were interviewed. Items were modified and new items included within the dimensions, while examples of equipment or systems applicable to each of the four dimensions were also identified. Research that helps managers to better understand and structure their IT investments by using the dimensions of ITPM is important to assist in the management of such resources.

O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar as dimensões, massa e volume do baço em tartarugas (Trachemys scripta elegans WIED, 1839) estabelecendo correlação com as dimensões, massa e volume corporais. Para a confecção deste trabalho, utilizou-se vinte animais, provenientes do Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade de São Paulo, coletados após a eutanásia que, levados ao Laboratório de Anatomia da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia da mesma universidade, tiveram suas dimensões, massa e volume corporais aferidos. Então, retirou-se o plastrão, expondo sua cavidade celomática, removendo o baço para realizar as mensurações. Apesar dos animais terem sido criados num mesmo ambiente, sob as mesmas condições ambientais e abatidos no mesmo período do ano, concluiu-se que não há correlação entre as dimensões do baço e as dimensões corporais, onde, animais menores podem apresentar o baço com maiores proporções do que tartarugas maiores, variando conforme as condições individuais - fato que ocorre com as demais espécies animais.; The purpose of this study was to stabilish the spleen dimensions (lenght, width e thickness), mass and volume of turtle (Trachemys scripta elegans WIED, 1839). We establish a connection between oriented matroid theory and loop quantum gravity in (2+2) (two time and two space dimensions) and 8-dimensions. We start by observing that supersymmetry implies that the structure constants of the real numbers, complex numbers, quaternions and octonions can be identified with the chirotope concept. This means, among other things, that normed divisions algebras, which are only possible in 1,2, 4 or 8-dimensions, are linked to oriented matroid theory. Therefore, we argue that the possibility for developing loop quantum gravity in 8-dimensions must be taken as important alternative. Moreover, we show that in 4-dimensions, loop quantum gravity theories in the (1+3) or (0+4) signatures are not the only possibilities. In fact, we show that loop quantum gravity associated with the (2+2)-signature may also be an interesting physical structure.
