O processo de elaboração, execução, coleta e análise de dados de experimentos ambientais com abelhas utilizando meios computacionais como suporte a pesquisa, é uma atividade complexa por exigir do pesquisador conhecimentos específicos aos quais ele não foi preparado para atuar. Laboratórios virtuais conhecidos como Weblabs são ferramentas de apoio a pesquisa, pois permitem a realização de experimentos sem a necessidade da presença física da equipe de pesquisadores. O modelo matemático utilizado junto com a sua interpretação são partes do experimento, porém não são tratados dessa maneira atualmente nos Weblabs. Este trabalho propõe a especificação de uma arquitetura de referência a ser empregada como modelo para permitir o desenvolvimento de componentes que disponibilizem serviços com a capacidade de efetuar a integração de dados coletados por meio de experimentos científicos executados com o auxílio dos Weblabs com ferramentas especialistas voltadas a experimentos ambientais e de biodiversidade. Os sistemas de modelagem de distribuição provável de espécie são utilizados para identificar regiões onde há maior probabilidade de uma determinada espécie viver, baseado nas características ambientais de localizações onde é conhecido que há presença daquela espécie. Estes sistemas requerem computação de alto desempenho devido à grande quantidade de dados que precisam ser processados para se gerar um modelo com a distribuição provável. Um momento importante do processo de modelagem de distribuição de espécies é a coleta dos dados, no qual os pesquisadores vão a campo para identificar alguns pontos de presença ou ausência, no entanto este processo é feito de forma ainda manual. Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de automação deste processo por meio da utilização de dispositivos móveis e arquitetura SOA. As Cidades Digitais, viabilizadas pelo grande desenvolvimento alcançado pelas Tecnologias da Informação e das Comunicações nos últimos 30 anos, surgem hoje como um novo paradigma nestas áreas. As Cidades Digitais promovem grandes benefícios para a população e para o governo, através de ambientes virtuais de oferecimento de serviços, por meio de redes de comunicações digitais. Nesse cenário, as redes de sensores, principalmente as redes sem fio, desempenham papel fundamental para permitir a coleta de dados em tempo real no âmbito municipal, produzindo grande quantidade de informações importantes para fins de análise, previsão e tomada de decisão. This article proposes a distributed admission control (AC) model based on on-line monitoring to manage the quality of Internet services and Service Level Specifications (SLSs) in class-based networks. The AC strategy covers intra- and interdomain operation, without adding significant complexity to the network control plane and involving only edge nodes. While ingress nodes perform implicit or explicit AC resorting to service-oriented rules for SLS and QoS parameters control, egress nodes collect service metrics providing them as inputs for AC. The end-to-end operation is viewed as a cumulative and repetitive process of AC and available service computation.We discuss crucial key points of the model implementation and evaluate its two main components: themonitoring process and the AC criteria. The results show that, using proper AC rules and safety margins, service commitments can be efficiently satisfied, and the simplicity and flexibility of the model can be explored to manage successfully QoS requirements of multiple Internet services.

Over the past several years, with the advent of the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) (19) and the Web Services Resource Framework (WSRF) (25), Service-oriented Architectures (SOA) and Web service technologies have been embraced in the field of scientific and Grid computing. These new principles promise to help make scientific infrastructures simpler to use, more cost effective to implement, and easier to maintain. However, understanding how to leverage these developments to actually design and build a system remains more of an art than a science. In this paper, we present some positions learned through experience that provide guidance in leveraging SOA technologies to build scientific infrastructures. In addition, we present the technical challenges that need to be addressed in building an SOA, and as a case study, we present the SOA that we have designed for the National Biomedical Computation Resource (NBCR) (9) community. We discuss how we have addressed these technical challenges, and present the overall architecture, the individual software toolkits developed, the client interfaces, and the usage scenarios. We hope that our experiences prove to be useful in building similar infrastructures for other scientific applications.

This paper outlines the grand challenges in global sustainability research and the objectives of the FP7 Future Internet PPP program within the Digital Agenda for Europe. Large user communities are generating significant amounts of valuable environmental observations at local and regional scales using the devices and services of the Future Internet. These communities’ environmental observations represent a wealth of information which is currently hardly used or used only in isolation and therefore in need of integration with other information sources. Indeed, this very integration will lead to a paradigm shift from a mere Sensor Web to an Observation Web with semantically enriched content emanating from sensors, environmental simulations and citizens. The paper also describes the research challenges to realize the Observation Web and the associated environmental enablers for the Future Internet. Such an environmental enabler could for instance be an electronic sensing device, a web-service application, or even a social networking group affording or facilitating the capability of the Future Internet applications to consume, produce, and use environmental observations in cross-domain applications. Aneka is a platform for deploying Clouds developing applications on top of it. It provides a runtime environment and a set of APIs that allow developers to build .NET applications that leverage their computation on either public or private clouds. One of the key features of Aneka is the ability of supporting multiple programming models that are ways of expressing the execution logic of applications by using specific abstractions. This is accomplished by creating a customizable and extensible service oriented runtime environment represented by a collection of software containers connected together. By leveraging on these architecture advanced services including resource reservation, persistence, storage management, security, and performance monitoring have been implemented. Orchestrating centralised service-oriented workflows presents significant scalability challenges that include: the consumption of network bandwidth, degradation of performance, and single points of failure. This paper presents a high-level dataflow specification language that attempts to address these scalability challenges. This language provides simple abstractions for orchestrating large-scale web service workflows, and separates between the workflow logic and its execution. It is based on a data-driven model that permits parallelism to improve the workflow performance. We provide a decentralised architecture that allows the computation logic to be moved "closer" to services involved in the workflow. This is achieved through partitioning the workflow specification into smaller fragments that may be sent to remote orchestration services for execution. The orchestration services rely on proxies that exploit connectivity to services in the workflow. These proxies perform service invocations and compositions on behalf of the orchestration services, and carry out data collection, retrieval, and mediation tasks. With increasing complexity of tourism business models and tasks, there is a clear need of the next generation e-Tourism infrastructure to support flexible automation, integration, computation, storage, and collaboration. Currently several enabling technologies such as semantic Web, Web service, agent and grid computing have been applied in the different e-Tourism applications, however there is no a unified framework to be able to integrate all of them. So this paper presents a promising e-Tourism framework based on emerging semantic grid, in which a number of key design issues are discussed including architecture, ontologies structure, semantic reconciliation, service and resource discovery, role based authorization and intelligent agent. The availability of vast quantities of data through electronic archives has transformed astronomical research. It has also enabled the creation of new products, models and simulations, often from distributed input data and models, that are themselves made electronically available. These products will only provide maximal long-term value to astronomers when accompanied by records of their provenance; that is, records of the data and processes used in the creation of such products. We use the creation of image mosaics with the Montage grid-enabled mosaic engine to emphasize the necessity of provenance management and to understand the science requirements that higher-level products impose on provenance management technologies. We describe experiments with one technology, the "Provenance Aware Service Oriented Architecture" (PASOA), that stores provenance information at each step in the computation of a mosaic. The results inform the technical specifications of provenance management systems, including the need for extensible systems built on common standards. Un conjunto de creciente importancia son los sistemas multimedia portátiles de tiempo real y los sistemas de comunicación de procesado digital de señal: teléfonos móviles, PDAs, cámaras digitales, consolas portátiles de juegos, terminales multimedia, netbooks, etc. Estos sistemas requieren computación específica de alto rendimiento, generalmente con restricciones de tiempo real y calidad de servicio (Quality of Service - QoS), que han de ejecutarse con un nivel bajo de consumo para extender la vida de la batería y evitar el calentamiento del dispositivo. También se requiere una arquitectura flexible para satisfacer las restricciones del "time-to-market". En consecuencia, los sistemas encastados necesitan una solución programable, de bajo consumo y alta capacidad de computación para satisfacer todos los requerimientos. Science gateways have become an important cyberenvironment modality to bridge domain applications and cyberinfrastructure, which is fundamental to make cyberinfrastructure integral and effective to the practice of advancing science and engineering. However, it remains a significant challenge to learn science gateway technologies and develop a science gateway because science gateway technologies are still actively evolving and often include a large number of sophisticated components. Some of these components must be designed to fit within the legacy methods through which scientists from a particular domain use conventional computation tools. This paper establishes a generic toolkit – SimpleGrid for learning and developing science gateways based on a service-oriented architecture using a component-based approach that allows flexible separation and integration of the components between domain applications and cyberinfrastructure in the process of learning and development of science gateways. On Demand Business concept, from IBM, shows how to coordinate the transformation of enterprise organization and its technological infrastructure to bridge the gap between business and technology. This problem appears in most of the information systems. This concept is based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to improve the connection between business services and software services. If companies can reach this On Demand Business environment they could improve the software development process by applying standards like Model Driven Architecture (MDA), to separate business logic from software and technological platforms, and Business Process Management (BPM) to define business processes as Computation Independent Models (CIM). In this article we propose a new MDA approach that combines BPM, SOA and the On Demand Business to improve the initial phase of the software development process. Starting on the creation of business processes models, classified like CIM, we can associate them to initial software models, based on software services, classified like Platform Independent Models (PIM).
