This paper approaches the meaning of school library through a multidisciplinary perspective including the Information Science, the French Discourse Analysis and Education. It aims to understand how the imaginary about this institution is constructed, in the area of Information Science, and to reflect on how this symbol is influenced by the social, historical and ideological conditions of discourse production and by memory. To develop these questions, first of all, it accomplishes a brief review of the literature concerning the French Discourse Analysis; then it analyzes discourses about the school library in nineteen scientific documents ( articles and works presented at scientific events), and also the different meanings of this information unit, its objectives and its ways of constituting the social imaginary. It is concluded that the information professionals could and should collaborate to the spreading of new practices and meaning in the school library.

A study was designed to determine how the degree programs in Information and library science available in 2000-2005 at the public universities of Madrid fit the tabour market needs of their students. The methodology used was the development of a questionnaire addressed to graduates. Although the number of surveys completed is not high (118), the authors believe that the results obtained permit a series of conclusions that may be extrapolated to the entire cohort.

The structural properties of the network generated by the editorial activities of the members of the boards of "Information Science & Library Science" journals are explored through network analysis techniques. The crossed presence of scholars on editorial boards, the phenomenon called interlocking editorship, is considered a proxy of the similarity of editorial policies. The evidences support the idea that this group of journals is better described as a set of only relatively connected subfields. In particular two main subfield are identified, consisting of research oriented journals devoted respectively to LIS and MIS. The links between these two subsets are weak. Around these two subsets there are a lot of (relatively) isolated professional journals or journals characterized more by their subject-matter content than by their focus on information flows. It is possible to suggest that this configuration of the network may be the consequence of the youthfulness of Information Science & Library Science, which has not permitted yet to reach a general consensus through scholars on research aims, methods and instruments.; Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables Accepted for publication. In this article discusses the relationship of the concept of collectionism with the areas of Archivology, Library Science and Museology. Problematizes this way, issues specific to each of them, and the same time, similarities in the matter of the collector’s act. Accordingly view a possibility of dialogue that transpose the purpose of the professional practices of the areas and propose a cross debate. Thus, introduced the concept of categorization of collectionism in three historical periods: Renaissance, Enlightenment and Contemporary, seeking to relate them to the subjects presented in this article. This way, what you propose is the incorporation of the concept of collecting as a topic fundamental to the constitution of the fields discussed in this work. Archival Science, Library Science and Museum Studies was constituted, as scientific disciplines, in the late nineteenth century, from the consolidation of a hetitage and custody centered model and  then, a functionalist perspective. It was with the emergence of theories and critical reflections that this three areas have broadened their scope of studies, and were inserted in a wider dialogue with other human and social sciences. This expansion also been felt favorable conditions for greater dialogue and mutual reinforcement between the three areas.; Arquivologia, Biblioteconomia e Museologia se constituíram, como disciplinas científicas, no final do século XIX, a partir da consolidação de um modelo custodial patrimonialista e, depois, de uma perspectiva funcionalista. Foi com o surgimento de teorias e reflexões críticas que as três áreas ampliaram seu escopo de estudos e problematizações, bem como inseriram-se num diálogo mais amplo com as demais ciências humanas e sociais. Nesta ampliação, também se fizeram sentir condições propícias para um maior diálogo e fortalecimento mútuo entre as três áreas.

Neste artigo são apresentadas as condições teóricas que possibilitam a integração epistemológica da Arquivologia, da Biblioteconomia e da Museologia no escopo da Ciência da Informação. Para isso, são apresentadas primeiramente as conformações históricas que propiciaram essas três áreas e o estabelecimento de um primeiro modelo de cientificidade. A seguir, são apresentadas diversas teorias formuladas ao longo do século XX, agrupadas em cinco eixos, que apontam para superações do modelo inicial. Por fim, esse quadro é confrontado com os desenvolvimentos teóricos da Ciência da Informação. The innovative distance education program at the School of Information Resources and Library Science is a model for higher education and the information industry for instructing information specialists and librarians on how to move information from place-to-place and from person-to-person. Geographically dispersed students directly experience electronic learning and communication via the Internet. Looking ahead to the future, this electronic wave of disseminating knowledge is increasingly more in demand and requires skills and expertise to successfully serve a clientele. This distance education program may be the only way a graduate student interested in information resources and library science can complete a program given his or her geographic location or other responsiblities that preclude moving near a university or driving long distances.

It briefly introduces the concept of e-Science. This is a quantitative study that analyzes the publications in Information Science dealing with the topic e-Science. The research sample consists of 202 records of documents retrieved from the “Library and Information Science “ (LISA) and “Library and Information Science & Technology Abstracts” (LISTA) databases. Data analysis reveals a growth of literature dealing with the subject; and shows that among the 202 records analyzed, 172 of them were journal articles. The result also confirms the phenomenon that few authors publish much. Among the countries that are working with e-Science the United Kingdom is playing a major role. In terms of professional library and information associations highlight the Association of Research Libraries. The paper concludes that the UK stands out in the treatment of e-science by information science. The scientific production of a country in a field in the ISI Web of Knowledge, is an indicator of the quality research for this country and filed. This article analyse the Spanish literature in Information Science and Library Science in the last decade (1995-2005). It presents data about production by journal, cited journals, production/citation by institutions and production/citation by author. This paper is an upgrade of a couple of former articles of the period 1995-2004.; La producción de un determinado país y una determinada disciplina en el ISI Web of Knowledge, es un claro indicador de la investigación de calidad que es capaz de generar ese país en esa disciplina. En el presente artículo se analiza la producción ISI española en la categoría “Information Science and Library Science” de los últimos once años (1995-2005). Se presentan datos de producción por revista, revistas citadas, producción/citación por instituciones y producción/citación por autor. Este trabajo es la actualización de un par de artículos anteriores que cubrían el periodo 1995-2004.

Longitudinal content analyses of Science coverage in the media are expensive, laborious and therefore rare. None of the existing studies covers the entire post-war period. We are constructing a cultural indicator for Science in Post-War Britain. The newly established Media Monitor Archive at the Science Museum, London, will contain around 10'000 press articles on science news in daily newspapers. The collection is systematically drawn from a crosssection of the British national press between 1946 and 1986. Articles are coded on 70 variables. Variables refer to formal characteristics (e.g. size, illustrations, headline, citations, news section, and ratings on personalization or story tone) and to the structure of the news narrative: Who is the author? Who is the main agent? What is the event, and where (research involved, time horizon, locality)? What is the context? what are the consequences for whom? What is the moral of the story? These indices will allow us to create time-series data to characterize a) the cyclical nature of science coverage; b) the changing structure of science news stories; c) the differences between quality and popular newspapers in various aspects; d) the varied ways in which different areas of science and technology are covered. Initial results show the cyclical nature of science coverage and differences in that cycle between quality and popular newspapers over 40 years in British daily and national press.

In September 2014, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) reported to Research Councils UK on the School’s compliance with the recently introduced RCUK Policy on Open Access (OA). This reports provides detail around the article processing charges (APC) data and RCUK Call for Evidence report. Background In April 2013, the revised RCUK Policy on Open Access came into effect. The policy requires journal articles or conference proceedings arising from research funded wholly or partially by a RCUK grant should be made freely available online (or “Open Access”). There are two main routes to make papers open access: a) the Green route, which is the LSE preferred route, when the full text of papers are deposited into an institutional repository such as LSE Research Online. To select this route, embargo periods must be no longer than the 12 months permitted by RCUK (no charge applies); b) the Gold route, which provides immediate, unrestricted access to the final version of the paper via the publisher's website, often using a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence - it may involve payment of an APC to the publisher. Resumo:Investiga a importância dos eventos científicos na formação acadêmica dos estudantes do curso de graduação em Biblioteconomia. Avalia a participação dos estudantes em eventos científicos e observa se há estímulo no decorrer de suas atividades acadêmicas para que ocorra esta participação. Considera que os eventos científicos criam a possibilidade de interação entre os estudantes e os profissionais da área e favorece o acesso a novas informações. A amostra é composta por estudantes dos cursos de Biblioteconomia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina - UFSC e da Universidade Estadual de Santa Catarina - UDESC. Os resultados apontam que os eventos científicos podem auxiliar no desenvolvimento da formação acadêmica dos estudantes.
