A agricultura de precisão (AP) é um das grandes responsáveis pela inserção de tecnologias cada vez mais avançadas dentro dos sistemas de produção agrícola. Um equipamento que já faz parte da AP é o computador de mão (Personal Digital Assistant, PDA). Porém com a evolução crescente dos dispositivos móveis tais como smartphones e tablets, os PDAs têm se tornado uma alternativa mais obsoleta do ponto de vista tecnológico. São várias as características que tornam smartphones e tablets dispositivos móveis mais atraentes tecnologicamente. A comunicação direta destes com sistemas de posicionamento via satélite foi o primeiro passo para torna-los válidos para o uso em AP. Além disso, dentre as tecnologias de computação, a computação móvel é a que tem mais aceitação pelos usuários do meio agrícola devido à gradativa inserção mercadológica que os telefones celulares exerceram durante os anos passados em todo o mundo. Mobile health (mHealth) can be defined as the practice of medicine and public health supported by mobile computing technologies, such as mobile phones, PDAs, tablets, sensors and other wireless devices. Particularly in the case of mobile phones, there has been a significant increase in the number of lines, equipment, and network infrastructure in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC), allowing the adoption of mHealth systems efficiently. There are now several cases of systems for data collection focused on primary care, health surveillance and epidemiological research, which were adopted in these countries. Such systems provide health care managers information with higher quality and in a shorter time, which in turn improves their ability to plan actions and respond to emergencies. However, security is not included among the main requirements of such systems. Aiming to address this issue, we developed a survey about mHealth applications and research initiatives in Brazil, which shows that a reasonable number of papers only briefly (13%) or simply do not mention (40%) their security requirements. Using robots for teaching is one approach that has gathered good results on Middle-School, High-School and Universities. Robotics gives chance to experiment concepts of a broad range of disciplines, principally those from Engineering courses and Computer Science. However, there are not many kits that enables the use of robotics in classroom. This article describes the methodologies to implement tools which serves as test beds for the use of robotics to teach Computer Science and Engineering. Therefore, it proposes the development of a flexible, low cost hardware to integrate sensors and control actuators commonly found on mobile robots, the development of a mobile robot device whose sensors and actuators allows the experimentation of different concepts, and an environment for the implementation of control algorithms through a computer network. The production of essential oils has become increasing in Brazil, especially considering the benefits that certain substances can add to health and range of cosmetics, toiletries and drugs that originate in its processing. Based on these conditions and in the vast area of the Rio Grande do Sul where it is being implanted the culture of eucalyptus, this study seeks ways to boost the economic structure of culture, seeking to generate new business opportunities through the extraction of oil contained in the leaves Eucalyptus, a byproduct of the paper industry, the current main economic interest of culture. Based on these assumptions, it was elaborated a conceptual design of a mobile equipment able to meet the processing demand of the crop, determining a diagram processing flow and fitting the equipment to meet this demand. The proliferation of mobile phones in developing countries has generated a wave of interest in collecting high-frequency socioeconomic surveys using this technology. This paper considers lessons from one such survey effort in a difficult environment -- the South Sudan Experimental Phone Survey, which gathered data on living conditions, access to services, and citizen attitudes via monthly interviews by phones provided to respondents. Non-response, particularly in later rounds of the survey, was a substantial problem, largely due to erratic functioning of the mobile network. However, selection due to non-response does not appear to have markedly affected survey results. Response rates were much higher for respondents who owned their own phones. Both compensation provided to respondents in the form of airtime and the type of phone (solar-charged or traditional) were varied experimentally. The type of phone was uncorrelated with response rates and, contrary to expectation, attrition was slightly higher for those receiving the higher level of compensation. The author studies the determinants of the diffusion of mobile telecommunications in Africa in a fixed effects model. He uses data from 1987-2000 on 41 African countries that have adopted cellular telecommunications technologies. He finds that competition is the driving force behind the mobile telecommunications explosion in Africa. Duopoly and triopoly markets grow significantly faster than monopoly markets, although growth does not appear to differ between the first two markets. Evidence of preemptive behavior is found in competitive sequential entries into the market, but the major effect of competition on diffusion occurs after the actual year of entry. The introduction of digital technology has a positive and significant effect on the diffusion of mobile phones. The presence of an incumbent-owned cellular operator has a negative effect on the diffusion of mobiles, suggesting an abuse of a dominant position by the incumbent fixed-line operator. However, privatization of the incumbent fixed-line cellular operator accelerates mobile growth and mitigates that negative effect.

Afghanistan has made significant progress in its development since 2001. Yet, these achievements remain continually fragile because of a volatile security situation and limited human capacity. In spite of these constraints, the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in the country has witnessed remarkable growth. The study estimated that the mobile app market will grow from its estimated $20-$33 million to $48-$60 million, at least twice the current size in the next three years. Gaps include lack of relevant skills and experience needed for the mobile app market (and also absences in resources needed to provide these skills), a deficiency in the awareness of the potential of mobile technology, and barriers because of the use of multiple languages and low levels of English language fluency. Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited; This thesis evaluates the Acquisition Plans of two US Army Command, Control and Communications (C3) systems: Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) and the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS), both of which are components of the Army Tactical Command and Control System (ATCCS). The study examines the defense acquisition process through the comparison of the Acquisition Plans and lessons learned for these two programs, and determines if there is an optimal strategy for the Army to use when acquiring tactical C3 systems. An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the two Acquisition Plans, and an evaluation of the similarities and differences of two programs, concludes that the MSE Acquisition Plan proved more successful than its SINCGARS counterparts because of its Non-Developmental Item approach. There has been significant discussion on the potential power of mobile-based technologies to provide unbanked populations with access to financial instruments and channels. Through the specific use of mobile money (m-money) services, for example, customers have accessed informational services, such as balance inquiries in their bank accounts, and transactional services, such as sending remittances to other people or paying for goods and services via their mobile phones. M-money has also been used by national governments to pay employee salaries and benefits. A key objective of this report is to discourage use of informal systems through the creation of a proportionate and not overly burdensome regulatory framework. Overly restrictive identification and verification processes in know-your-customer (KYC) policies, for example, may push users back to the informal financial system. The issue of mobile source emissions has not been as prominent as energy efficiency or renewable energy in the national climate policy debate. This analysis examines the potential impact of land use patterns on carbon dioxide emissions from mobile sources. Specifically, this report addresses the CO2 emissions of non-road construction equipment and light-duty passenger vehicles associated with sustainable land use patterns and urban sprawl. As local governments and developers begin to plan and take action to reduce CO2 emissions, tools will be needed to quantify emission reductions associated with local land use patterns. The objective of this project is to provide an inventory tool in Microsoft Excel that calculates the magnitude of emissions from construction and highway vehicles associated with various land use patterns.

This paper shows the developing process of an anti-vibration system, from its conception up to the construction of a experimental prototype. Special features and constraints that must be considered are specified, including a description and theoretical foundation of the working principle, a geometrical proposal and a component selection process, in order to ensure the effective operation of the system complying required specifications. Bulk materials handling systems are extensively used in the mining and minerals industry, where a fairly high incidence of structural failure is experienced, notwithstanding design compliance with appropriate standards. A number of case studies are explored to demonstrate how insufficient controls or protection systems have contributed to structural failures on mobile bulk handling equipment. The importance of design integration across engineering disciplines is highlighted. The revision of ISO 5049-1 (1994) is proposed to provide specific rules and guidelines pertaining to machine protection systems. It is further recommended that the structural design engineer of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) fulfils a more prominent role during the final acceptance and handover of mobile bulk handling equipment, with specific reference to protection systems.
